Robb
Stauber was frustrated when he couldn't break experienced goalies
of bad habits. It was nearly as difficult to stop young goalies
from developing the same poor habits. Habits that wreck havoc with
fundamentals of stance, balance, movement, and positioning of arm,
hand and stick.
Happily, three years of R&D resulted in the Goalcrease Staubar,
the first goalie training device and directly conceived using principles
of human anatomy, kinetic energy, and muscle memory. Introduced
in 1999, the Staubar has already been given unabashed credit for
developing winning goalies and championship
teams.
No matter what style a goalie uses, the more of themselves and
their equipment that stays squarely in front of the shot, the higher
the odds that the goalie will stop the puck.
Therefore, the Staubar puts more of the goalie in front of the
shot . . . which ultimately creates "high percentage"
goalies.
Its designed to "force" goalies into the habit
of moving everything they've got squarely in front of the shot.
In fact, its anatomically impossible for a goalie to move
any other way. When wearing the Staubar in practice, a goalie can't
repeat improper technique, get lazy, or rely on their athleticism
to flick out a glove or blocker.
The Staubar trains good sound habits and technique . . . making
it reflexive to move the entire body squarely toward the puck. By
regularly incorporating it into practice sessions, proper technique
becomes a habit that proceeds without control of the goalie's conscious
brain. The Staubar cements a reflex that just begins to 'feel right'.
